Now that we're all up to speed on using the External Instrument device with multi-output virtual instruments, its worth while to take a look at creating templates for these instruments.
For example, here's a set of grouped MIDI tracks that I've created to manage my Virus TI:
Here are the External Instrument devices inserted in Virus tracks 1, 2 and 3:
The Virus 1 Track hosts the plugin. By default, any MIDI clips on this track will transmit on channel 1 and receive audio on the main stereo outs of the Virus. The next two tracks transmit on MIDI channels 2 and 3, and receive audio on channels 2 and 3 respectively.
Once this is all set up, the Group track can be dragged to the browser to save this setup as a Template.
Above you'll see that I've created an Instruments folder within the Templates folder specifically for multi output instruments.
